World Faire

Today I went to the World Faire! I learned a lot of about new innovations, and artwork as well. "Art Nouveau"  was what new art was referred to as in Paris. Some notable artists were Alphonse Mucha and Antonio Gaudi. The significance of this introduction of new art was that there was a reform to classic design, and this acted as a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. It correlated with this, as the new artwork did not deny the expansion of industrialization, but rather worked in harmony with it, as it accepted the use of new materials and machinery. Additionally, it was interesting to hear about new inventions, such as the bicycle. The Penny Farthing Bicycle was invented in the 1870s, and although it was a practical means of transportation, it was very unsafe. This invention allowed for increased social mobility and allowed people to traverse farther across their general town and area they resided in. Due to the increased demand for this new revolutionary form of transportation, new models of bicycles were introduced. These models were: the Draisene, the Velocipede, the 3 and 4 wheelers, the Michaux, the High Wheel Bicycle, and the Safety Bicycle. It was so interesting to learn about new inventions from the World Faire, and to see the impact these held on society.
