Jake's observations and thoughts on the World's Faire of 1889.

I had a marvelous time today at the World's Faire observing so many fantastical inventions and witnessing achievements that I thought would never be possible. It is amazing to see not only how far we've come as a race in terms of advancing ourselves and driving humanity forward, but also how it will impact us in the future in our societies and styles of living. If so much has already been accomplished in this century, I can only imagine what the great minds of the future will bring to the table for us in the centuries to come.

My trip to the World Faire taught me so much about technology, such as photographs and light bulbs, not to mention that there was delicious food there.  There was food that I had only ever heard of before.  They tasted wildly unhealthy yet it was so delicious.  There were things called hot dogs, basically sausages in a bun, and fairy floss which was a sugary delight that melted in your mouth.  Anyways, I'm getting sidetracked with the food, but I'd say my main takeaways had to do with the innovations of our century.  For sure, one of my highlights was meeting the different innovators of photography, Louis Le Prince, George Eastman, Frederick E. Ives. They were the men who forever changed photography and cinematography.  I learned so much (and ate so much) during my trip the World's Faire.

Food at the World Faire

Today my family and I visited the World Fair. It was very, very crowded. There were many different kinds of food as well that my family and I really enjoyed. Including this new drink called Dr. Pepper which tasted very sweet, maybe even a little too sweet, but my brother Jimmony loved it. My mother told me that her first child before my brother and me had died of cholera. At the world fair, we found a stand that provided vaccines against cholera. My mother cried of happiness. Beside the vaccine stand, there was a bicycle stand! We had never heard of a bicycle before, and even though they were very expensive, my pops still bought one for my brother and me. They even had a bike testing area where I fell several times but it was worth it.

At the World's Faire, I saw things I could never imagine. I saw a device that was able to take a photograph with the click of a button, and you can move it around anywhere.

Today, I went to the World’s Faire, and was astounded at the variety of innovations there.

Booth #1: by Nadia and Aevia

There were many different innovations in the food category such as pie-eating contests, funnel cake, oysters, cheese, cold meat, popcorn, hot dogs, and banana splits.

Also, Dr. Pepper, hamburgers, ice cream cones, and peanut butter. The amount of new items here is insane! This is going to revolutionize food for the future. And imagine what we’ll be able to do with a light bulb! Now, we’ll be able to navigate and do tasks in the night.

Booth #2: by Aubteen

There are a huge number of inventions at the World’s Faire - including Coca Cola, the Bunsen Burner, and the world’s first electric lightbulb!

Booth #3 : Nao and Patrick

I can’t believe my eyes… a portable camera that anyone can use! What an intriguing invention, anyone can use a camera, as easy as using a pencil, just pressing a button! I have no idea what this photoengraving is, but it looks interesting, pointalism without human hand! Is modern science going too far? The next thing I saw was scary, I must admit I fear it, a camera that can hold lots of time! It takes enough photos to make a video! I fear it will capture our soul

Booth #4: Carissa Anyka and Suzanna
I bicycle, a machine that powers us forwards, one of my favourite inventions, it’s a shame how belgium gets the rubber for it though.
